A New Blog For A New Year!

Hi Everyone!

I have created a new blog for the Jefferson County Library Cooperative's Adult Services Roundtable. I will post meeting minutes, links to information, and future dates on this blog. If it's related to Adult Services and you need to know about it, you can find it here!

The Roundtable met last November to discuss meeting topics and dates for 2010. Our decisions were unanimous, and I think everyone is excited about what we chose for this year. Here are our dates and topics. All meetings will be at Emmet O'Neal Library on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. in the library's meeting room. For the most part these meetings are on the third Tuesday, unless there is a conflict.
  • January 19th - Adult Programming (this will include plans for Adult Programming. This WILL NOT include book clubs as we will have a meeting about book clubs later in the year.
  • March 16th - Foreign Language resources including ESL. At this meeting we are planning to have Mike Poynter from Recorded Books to discuss the new Recorded Books language learning resources. We may have additional guests. If you know of someone with particular expertise in the field of foreign language or ESL, please let me know!
  • May 18th - Book Clubs!
  • July 27th - Reference!
  • September 21st - Community Outreach and Social Networking
  • November 16th - Best Practices - to include holds, damaged items, desk schedules, computers (cleaning, printing issues, etc.) AV materials, cell phones, paying for holds). While we realize that each of these topics could easily take up an entire meeting, we will try to cover the basics. It could be that we decide to dedicate an entire meeting to one of these issues in 2011 - or not :)
For our January 19th meeting, please bring your ideas for adult programming (remember, not book groups!) as well as summer reading ideas for adults.

In addition, Pat Ryan has asked us to discuss a new proposal from Lexis Nexis which could take the place of our current news subscription and Reference USA. We will take a look at the screenshots and discuss the general idea behind this databases Lexis Nexis Library Express, however, the trial will not be ready until March. Pat told me she expects to be able to preview this product then. I will have more information for you re: this new database at next week's meeting.

In the meantime, please let me know if you have any questions - and leave a comment on our new blog!
